Langflow

Open-source visual builder for AI agents, RAG flows and MCP servers, where every flow you build is also an API endpoint.

Langflow lets you build an LLM app, such as an agent with tools, a RAG chatbot or a multi-step pipeline, by connecting components on a canvas instead of writing the orchestration code. It suits prototyping quickly and letting people who don't write the app's code change prompts and flows, while your product calls the result over HTTP.

How it works: a flow is a graph of components, from inputs, outputs and data stores to agents, language models and embedding providers. When the built-in set isn't enough, you write a custom component as a Python class, and its inputs and outputs show up as a node in the visual editor. A playground lets you test a flow as you build it.

What you get: every flow can be run from your code through the /api/v1/run endpoint with a Langflow API key, with "tweaks" to override component settings per request. Flows can also be triggered by webhooks, embedded in a site as a chat widget, called through an OpenAI-compatible responses endpoint, or exposed as tools on Langflow's MCP server. You can run it as Langflow Desktop on macOS or Windows, as a Python package, or in Docker, and flows export as JSON files you can import into another instance.

The limits: the flow logic lives in Langflow's database as JSON rather than as code in your repository. The default database is SQLite, and the docs recommend PostgreSQL for production. Langflow is built to execute developer-provided code with full access to its host, and it does not isolate users from one another, so a shared or public deployment needs isolation at the infrastructure level.

Questions makers ask about Langflow

What license is Langflow under?

The MIT license, so you can use, modify and redistribute it, including in commercial products, as long as the copyright notice is kept. source ↗

How do I call a flow from my own backend?

Send a request to /api/v1/run/ followed by the flow's ID, authenticated with a Langflow API key in the x-api-key header, which most endpoints require from version 1.5 on. Tweaks let you change component parameters for a single run without editing the flow. source ↗

Can I export a flow or move it to another server?

Yes. Flows export as JSON files containing their nodes, edges and metadata, and whole projects as a zip. API keys stored in global variables are exported by name only, so the target instance needs global variables with the same names. source ↗

Can I expose a flow to MCP clients?

Yes. Langflow can act as an MCP server that exposes a project's flows as tools for MCP clients, and as an MCP client that uses tools from other servers. source ↗

What do I need to self-host it?

Python 3.10 to 3.14 with uv, or the Docker image; the docs list a dual-core CPU and 2 GB of RAM as the minimum and a multi-core CPU with at least 4 GB as recommended. For production, switch the database from SQLite to PostgreSQL. source ↗

Is it safe to let users build or run flows on a shared instance?

Not without extra work. Langflow can execute arbitrary developer-provided code with full access to the backend process, filesystem and network, and it does not isolate users within one process, so multi-tenant setups need process, disk, network and database isolation at the infrastructure level. source ↗

Is Langflow free?

Yes — it is free, open-source software.

Is Langflow open source or self-hostable?

Open source, and you can self-host it. source ↗

Can AI coding agents work with Langflow?

It serves an llms.txt docs index.
