Firebase pricing

How Firebase charges, what to know before you commit, and what you'd pay at your usage — next to what the alternatives would cost for the same thing.

In short

No base fee: $0.03 per 100,000 document reads and $0.09 per 100,000 writes, $0.15 per GiB stored and $0.12 per GiB of internet egress, after a free daily quota.

What the model leaves out

Prices are for Iowa (us-central1); multi-region locations such as nam5 cost more per operation. Storage is listed at $0.000205479 per GiB-hour ≈ $0.15 per GiB-month. Daily quotas are converted × 30 and assume steady traffic. Deletes ($0.01 per 100,000, 20,000 a day free) aren't modelled. Egress to internet destinations is graduated: free to 10 GiB, $0.12 to 1 TiB, $0.11 to 10 TiB, $0.08 beyond — the first paid tier is modelled; traffic between US Google Cloud regions is free and China/Australia destinations cost more. Firestore is serverless, so compute_hours doesn't apply. Committed-use discounts (1 or 3 years, 20–40% off operations) are left out. Spark is Firebase's no-billing plan, capped at the same free quota.

Before you commit
  • The free quota is daily (50,000 reads and 20,000 writes a day, reset around midnight Pacific), so a spike on one day is billed even if the month's total is small.
  • Only one database per project gets the free quota; named databases are billed from the first operation.
  • Queries are also charged for index entries read (one read per batch of up to 1,000) when they use more than one range field, and an aggregation query that reads nothing still costs one read.
  • Stored data includes overhead for metadata and indexes, so it is larger than your raw documents.

The first 50,000 monthly active users are free, then Identity Platform's graduated per-MAU rates apply, from $0.0055 down to $0.0025.

What the model leaves out

Email, social, anonymous and phone sign-in (Tier 1 providers). The first 50k MAU are free on both Spark and Blaze (firebase.google.com/pricing); beyond that Identity Platform's graduated rates apply — $0.0055 to 100k, $0.0046 to 1M, $0.0032 to 10M, $0.0025 beyond. SAML/OIDC users are 50 free, then $0.015 each. Phone auth SMS is billed per message on top.

Before you commit
  • Phone sign-in isn't available on the free Spark plan; on Blaze every SMS is billed by destination country after the first 10 a day.
  • SAML and OIDC users get only 50 free MAUs, then $0.015 each.
  • Anonymous users count toward MAU unless automatic clean-up is enabled.

Cloud Storage needs the pay-as-you-go Blaze plan; 5 GB stored and 100 GB downloaded a month are free, then Google Cloud Storage rates apply.

What the model leaves out

Cloud Storage for new (*.firebasestorage.app) buckets needs the Blaze plan; the Spark plan no longer includes it. No-cost usage (5 GB-months stored, 100 GB/month downloaded) applies only to buckets in us-central1, us-west1 or us-east1. Beyond it, Google Cloud Storage prices apply (https://cloud.google.com/storage/pricing) — Standard storage in us-central1 is $0.020/GiB-month and internet egress $0.12/GiB for the first 10 TiB. Operations beyond 5K uploads / 50K downloads per month are not modelled.

Before you commit
  • The no-cost quota applies only to buckets in us-central1, us-west1 or us-east1.
  • New *.firebasestorage.app buckets require Blaze; the free Spark plan doesn't include Cloud Storage for them.
  • Upload and download operations are billed beyond 5K uploads and 50K downloads a month.
  • Legacy *.appspot.com buckets are billed differently: $0.026/GB stored after 5 GB, and 1 GB/day of downloads free, then $0.12/GB.
