Base44 turns a chat description into a working web app, website or internal tool, and runs it for you. The frontend, the data, user sign-in and hosting all live on one platform, so there is no separate backend account to connect.
Generated apps have a React frontend on top of Base44's own backend. Data is stored as "entities": JSON-schema collections in a MongoDB-compatible NoSQL database, with row- and field-level access rules and realtime subscriptions, and no migrations when the schema changes. Custom server logic runs as TypeScript functions on Deno. The same backend is offered on its own to developers: a CLI and a JavaScript SDK let you put a React, Vue, Solid, Hono or React Native (Expo) frontend on it.
Useful for a small team: two-way GitHub sync and ZIP export of the code, a local dev server (base44 dev) that runs the backend on your machine, built-in payments and Stripe, custom domains, a security scan before publishing, and packaging for the App Store and Google Play. Backend resources and frontend files deploy to Base44's own infrastructure.
The code you export still calls the Base44 SDK and backend, so moving off the platform means replacing the data layer, auth and functions. App data is stored in the US unless you are on the Elite or Enterprise plan, which can choose EU or UK clusters; on plans below Enterprise, workspace data may be used to train AI models.

Yes. You can download the project as a ZIP or connect a GitHub repository for two-way sync, where commits made locally and edits made in Base44 stay in step. Both need the Builder plan or higher. source ↗
