Mailgun
Email API with strong inbound routing and address validation.
Works with AI agents:Built into LovableMailgun, part of Sinch, is a hosted email service for sending, receiving and tracking the email your application sends, through an HTTP API or SMTP.
You add a sending domain and create it in either the US or the EU region; the API base URL differs (api.mailgun.net or api.eu.mailgun.net), and messages, logs, suppressions and routes stay in that region. Every new account also gets a sandbox subdomain of mailgun.org for testing, which can only send to authorized recipients. Incoming mail is handled by Routes: each route pairs a filter (match a recipient, match a header, or catch all) with actions (forward to an address or POST to your URL, store the message, or stop), evaluated in priority order. Official SDKs cover Node.js, Python, Ruby, PHP, Go and Java.
Useful for a small team: inbound messages are parsed for you, with quoted replies and signatures split out; optional spam filtering on incoming mail, with DKIM and SPF results; scheduled delivery; signed webhooks; and one account that manages domains in both the US and the EU.
The free plan is narrow: 100 emails a day, one custom domain, one inbound route, one user and one day of logs. Log retention stays short on lower paid plans (1 day on Basic, 5 on Foundation, 30 on Scale). A domain can receive mail at only one provider, so if Google Workspace already receives for your domain, use a subdomain for Mailgun.

Questions makers ask about Mailgun
Can I keep my email data in the EU?
Yes. Domains created in the EU region keep their messages, event logs, suppressions and routes there; only account, billing, API key and domain-name data is replicated globally. source ↗
Can I use my domain with Mailgun and Google Workspace at the same time?
For sending, yes. For receiving, no, because only one server can take incoming mail for a domain; Mailgun suggests a subdomain for anything it should receive. source ↗
Can I test before setting up DNS?
Yes. Each account gets a sandbox subdomain of mailgun.org that works without DNS changes, but it can only send to recipients you've authorized. source ↗
How do I know a webhook really came from Mailgun?
Each POST it makes carries extra parameters you can use to verify its signature, as described in the webhooks documentation. source ↗
Is it SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certified?
Yes, Sinch Mailgun is SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 27001 certified, and states GDPR compliance. Customer data is encrypted at rest with AES-256. source ↗
How long are sending logs kept?
One day on the Free and Basic plans, 5 days on Foundation and 30 days on Scale. source ↗
Do I need a dedicated IP?
Usually not when starting out. Mailgun suggests a shared IP below about 5,000 emails a day and a dedicated one above roughly 50,000 a week, because a dedicated IP needs steady volume to build a reputation. source ↗
Is Mailgun free?
Yes — there is a free tier a small product can run on; paid use starts at $15/mo. source ↗
Is Mailgun open source or self-hostable?
Not open source, and hosted only.
Can AI coding agents work with Mailgun?
Lovable set it up natively.
