Streamlit
Open-source Python framework that turns a Python script into an interactive web app, with no frontend code.
Works with AI agents:llms.txtStreamlit is a Python framework for building data apps, dashboards and internal tools without writing HTML, CSS or JavaScript. It is aimed at people who already have Python code, such as data analysis or a model, and want to put a UI in front of it quickly. Streamlit is owned by Snowflake.
How it works: you write a normal Python script that calls functions like st.write, st.slider or st.dataframe, and run it with streamlit run. Widgets behave like variables: when a user moves a slider, Streamlit reruns the whole script from top to bottom with the new value. @st.cache_data lets expensive steps skip work on reruns, and st.session_state keeps values between them.
What you get: a library of widgets, charts and layout elements; multipage apps via st.navigation and st.Page or a pages/ folder; theming through .streamlit/config.toml; user login through OpenID Connect providers with st.login and st.user; and custom components when you need a widget it doesn't ship, built with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. You can self-host it (the docs cover Docker and Kubernetes), deploy free on Streamlit Community Cloud from a GitHub repo, or run it inside Snowflake.
The limits: the rerun-everything model is simple, but slow code runs again on every interaction unless you cache it, and the look is largely what the built-in elements and theme settings allow. On Community Cloud, apps inherit visibility from their GitHub repo, you get one private app at a time, and apps sleep after 12 hours without traffic.

Alternatives to Streamlit
All alternatives by situation →Questions makers ask about Streamlit
Do I need to know HTML, CSS or JavaScript?
No. An app is a Python script run with streamlit run, and widgets, charts and layout come from Streamlit's Python API. source ↗
Why does my whole app run again when I click something?
That is the model. Streamlit reruns the script from top to bottom on every widget interaction or code change; use @st.cache_data to skip expensive work and st.session_state to keep values between reruns. source ↗
Where can I host it for free?
Streamlit Community Cloud deploys an app from a GitHub repo for free. Apps inherit their repo's visibility, you can have one private app at a time, and apps without traffic for 12 hours go to sleep. source ↗
Can I add user login?
Yes. st.login() sends users to an OpenID Connect provider such as Google, Microsoft Entra ID, Okta or Auth0, and st.user exposes who is logged in. Credentials go in secrets.toml. source ↗
Can I build an app with several pages?
Yes, either with st.Page and st.navigation, which the docs call the preferred method, or by putting extra scripts in a pages/ directory. source ↗
What if I need a widget Streamlit doesn't have?
Write a custom component. You can pass HTML, CSS and JavaScript from Python or build a TypeScript package, and components exchange data with Python in both directions. source ↗
Is Streamlit free?
Yes — it is free, open-source software.
Is Streamlit open source or self-hostable?
Open source, and you can self-host it. source ↗
Can AI coding agents work with Streamlit?
It serves an llms.txt docs index.
