What the model leaves out
Codex comes with a ChatGPT plan. Go covers lightweight tasks on GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app only, and Plus adds the web, CLI and IDE extension. Pro also comes at $200 and $500/month with higher limits. Business is $25 per user per month billed monthly. Codex can also run on an API key at token prices.
Before you commit
- Plus and Business have five-hour limits that depend on the model (OpenAI estimates 15–160 local messages per five hours on GPT-6.1 Sol), and weekly limits may also apply; Pro currently has no five-hour limit.
- Cloud tasks, Fast mode (2.5x) and image generation use up the allowance faster than standard local messages.
- Past the limit, Plus and Pro users can buy ChatGPT credits or run local chats on an API key at API rates.
- Go and Free run only GPT-6 Luna in the desktop app; the web, CLI and IDE extension need Plus or higher.
