What the model leaves out
Langfuse bills "units" — every trace, observation (span, event, generation) and score counts as one — so a trace with several steps uses several units; the model treats units as traces. Overage is graduated ($8 per 100k up to 1M, $7 to 10M, $6.50 to 50M, $6 above); the first tier is modeled. Hobby has 2 users and 30 days of data; Pro adds 3-year retention. Self-hosting the open-source version is free (hosting costs are yours).
- A unit is any trace, observation (span, event, generation) or score, so one multi-step trace counts as several units.
- Units created by Langfuse features such as LLM-as-a-Judge, annotation queues and experiments count toward billing too.
- Hobby keeps 30 days of data and allows 2 users.
- The plan fee is charged at the start of the month and usage at the end.
