Gradio alternatives

Not a ranking: each option is described by the situation it fits, with its trade-off, whether it's open source or free to start, whether AI coding agents can work with it, and how many makers' products use it for this job.

For frontend framework

The whole decision →

Which full-stack framework, and so which UI library under it. The React frameworks (Next.js, React Router, TanStack Start) get the largest pool of components, examples and AI-agent familiarity; SvelteKit and Nuxt trade that for Svelte's or Vue's style; Astro is content-first and ships almost no JavaScript, but isn't built for app-heavy screens. A bare UI library on Vite is still enough for a single-page app behind a login. If your backend already renders HTML, htmx and Alpine.js add interactivity without a JavaScript framework, and if your app is a Python script or model, Streamlit or Gradio give it a UI with no frontend code at all.

Gradio (Python app UI): Demos and simple apps around a machine learning model or Python function, with an API and share link generated for every app. Trade-off: Built around inputs and outputs of functions rather than full product UIs, and custom CSS or JS that targets its DOM may break between versions.

Next.js

React full-stack
Open sourceFree tierllms.txtCLI

Best forReact apps that want server rendering, API routes and the largest set of examples, templates and SaaS starters.

Trade-offServer components and caching rules add concepts to learn, and some features work most smoothly on Vercel.

Astro

Content-first
Open sourceFree tierCLI

Best forMarketing sites, docs and blogs that ship minimal JavaScript, with interactive islands from any UI library.

Trade-offNot designed for app-like dashboards with lots of client-side state.

Used by 242 makers' products for this

React

UI library (with Vite)
Open sourceFree tierllms.txt

Best forSingle-page apps built from React components, with the largest ecosystem of component libraries, examples and AI-generated code.

Trade-offOn its own it has no routing, data loading or server rendering; you assemble those from separate libraries or move to a React framework.

Used by 239 makers' products for this

Nuxt

Svelte or Vue full-stack
Open sourceFree tierllms.txtCLI

Best forVue apps, with a large module ecosystem for auth, content, images and SEO.

Trade-offSmaller ecosystem and fewer AI-generated examples than React.

Used by 30 makers' products for this

SvelteKit

Svelte or Vue full-stack
Open sourceFree tierllms.txtMCPCLI

Best forApps written in Svelte, with less boilerplate and small client bundles.

Trade-offFewer third-party component libraries than React.

Used by 2 makers' products for this

React Router

React full-stack
Open sourceFree tier

Best forReact apps built around web standards — loaders, actions and forms — in the lineage of Remix.

Trade-offSmaller ecosystem of starters than Next.js, and the project has changed names and APIs over its history.

Used by 1 makers' products for this

TanStack Start

React full-stack
Open sourceFree tierllms.txtCLI

Best forType-safe routing and server functions for React or Solid, built on TanStack Router.

Trade-offYounger than the alternatives, with fewer examples and hosting guides.

Vue.js

UI library (with Vite)
Open sourceFree tierllms.txtCLI

Best forSingle-page apps with approachable single-file components and official router and state libraries from the same team.

Trade-offFewer third-party components and AI-generated examples than React; add Nuxt when you need server rendering.

Used by 67 makers' products for this

Svelte

UI library (with Vite)
Open sourceFree tierllms.txtMCPCLI

Best forInteractive apps and widgets with little boilerplate, compiled to small client bundles.

Trade-offSmaller component ecosystem than React, and Svelte 5 changed the reactivity syntax, so older tutorials and AI suggestions may use the previous style.

Used by 43 makers' products for this

Angular

Batteries-included framework
Open sourceFree tierllms.txtCLI

Best forLarger TypeScript apps that want routing, forms, an HTTP client, dependency injection and a CLI from one framework, with signals for reactivity.

Trade-offMore concepts and boilerplate than React or Vue for a small app, and fewer indie-focused templates and starters.

Used by 26 makers' products for this

SolidJS

UI library (with Vite)
Open sourceFree tierllms.txt

Best forFast, small interactive apps written in JSX, where signals update only the parts of the page that change.

Trade-offA much smaller ecosystem of components and examples than React, and React libraries don't work in it.

Used by 5 makers' products for this

htmx

HTML-first
Open sourceFree tier

Best forServer-rendered apps where links, forms and buttons fetch HTML fragments from the backend and swap them into the page, with no client-side framework.

Trade-offEvery interaction is a server round trip, so it suits poorly UIs with many interdependent client-side parts, offline use or constant updates; there are fewer component libraries and AI-generated examples than for React.

Used by 2 makers' products for this

Eleventy

Content-first
Open sourceFree tierCLI

Best forBlogs, docs and small marketing sites built from Markdown and templates into plain HTML, with no client-side JavaScript by default.

Trade-offNo built-in component islands or app routing, so interactive parts are added by hand; it is being rebranded as Build Awesome, so names in docs and packages are shifting.

Used by 1 makers' products for this

Alpine.js

HTML-first
Open sourceFree tier

Best forSmall interactive pieces like dropdowns, modals, tabs and bound form fields, written as attributes in server-rendered HTML.

Trade-offNo routing or data layer, and logic written in HTML attributes gets hard to follow as it grows; strict Content Security Policies need its restricted CSP build.

Used by 1 makers' products for this

Streamlit

Python app UI
Open sourceFree tierllms.txt

Best forData apps, dashboards and internal tools written as a single Python script, with widgets and charts built in.

Trade-offThe whole script reruns on every interaction, so slow steps need caching, and layout and styling are limited to its elements and theme settings.
